#173032 Characterization of metabolites of fungi and identifying potential new biofungicide

The object of proposed research are various species of micromycetes and macromycetes. The fungi may be the source of new biologically active substances. Many of these metabolites are of the economic importance because they show different biological effects, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidative, anticancerogenic, immunostimulating, etc.

The wide spectrum of taxa and fungal diversity make the fungi interesting for natural products study. The research of saprobic and pathogenic species will be performed using current biochemical and molecular methods. The rising interest for searching of remedies of natural origin for disease control has given the impulse to active substance research originated from plants and fungi, therefore in this research the possible antimicrobial and antioxidative effects of extracts of medicinal and aromatic plants and fungi from Serbia and region are also included.

Due to general diseases, diet disbalance, and decrease in buccal and teeth hygiene, the decrease of oral homeostasis and development of different stomatological disorders is noted. Regarding the occurrence of microorganisms resistence to existing synthetic antimicrobial remedies, the need for finding new antimicrobial agents arised. The ability of plant and fungal usage as new potential antimicrobial agents is also the aim of studies. Considering the big amounts of pollutants, such as xenobiotics and agricultural waste, which could cause serious health disorders due to carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, the research of fungal enzymatic systems ability of chemically stable organic pollutants biodegradation will be done.
