The library of the Institute for Biological Research „Siniša Stanković" is a research library focused on the field of biology, including biochemistry, molecular biology, cytology, animal physiology, neurobiology, neurophysiology, immunology, genetics, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem ecology, environmental protection, taxonomy and organic evolution.
The Library was founded in 1947 when the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) established the Institute of Ecology and Biogeography and the Institute of Physiology, Evolution, Genetics and Selection. The following year both institutes founded their own libraries with a mission to collect domestic and international literature necessary for research works. When the two institutes merged and formed the Institute of Biology, the institutes joined their libraries into one integrated library which continued the mission of its predecessors and followed the growth of the new institute. Today, the library holdings include over 30.000 units of periodicals, books and reference works. The library of the Institute for Biological Research „Siniša Stanković" provides free on-line access to numerous international electronic journals through the Serbian Library Consortium for Coordinated Acquisition (KOBSON), as well as to other services. By developing and implementing new information technologies, the library meets essential information needs of the institute's researchers and other users.
The library is registered in the Central Register of Serbian Libraries at the University Library „ Svetozar Marković" (decision number 06-218/195, November 14, 1997; library code 3018407067).
The library is located in the building of the Institute of Biological Research „Siniša Stanković", Bulevar despota Stefana 142. The library has a reading room for 20 researchers, with internet access and the University Information System.
