Antitumor potential of the second generation of fullerene derivatives 3HFWC alone and in combination with gold nanoparticles, 2023

The aim of the project is to investigate the potential antitumor properties of the newly synthesized fullerene derivative 3HFWC-W alone or in combination with nanogold, Au@3HFWC-W. The research will be conducted on B16 mouse melanoma cells derived from a solid tumor and its highly invasive metastatic clone B16F10. Hydroxylated fullerene will be used as a reference compound. The effect of the experimental compounds on the viability of the cell lines will be monitored by in vitro assays based on quantification of the cells by mitochondrial respiration (MTT) and adhesiveness (CV). Cell proliferation and assessment of the types of cell death induced by the aforementioned treatments will be performed by flow cytofluorimetry and fluorescence microscopy. Senescence will be analyzed by oil red staining. The results obtained will provide information on the potential of the experimental compounds to suppress melanoma cell growth and on the initial mechanisms underlying their antitumor action.
