This lecture will provide IBISS researchers with information about the Danubius Awards, the criteria, and how to apply for the awards, as well as the research that was awarded the Danubius Young Scientist Award 2022. This award is given with the aim of highlighting the scientific work and talent of young researchers, increasing the visibility of the scientific community of the region, as well as encouraging young scientists to research issues and topics that are specifically related to the Danube region.
Dr. Zorana Miletić, a research associate of the Department of Ecology of our Institute, received the award for her doctoral dissertation "Content of potentially toxic elements in selected woody species as bioindicators of pollution in the coastal zone of the Sava River". The research included indigenous species Salix alba (white willow), Populus alba (white poplar), P. nigra (black poplar), Ulmus glabra (mountain elm) and Juglans regia (walnut). The capacity of these species for bioindication and phytoremediation of 14 chemical elements was determined, and the most important results of this research will be presented at the seminar.
