Dr. Milena Marković

Dr. Milena Marković was born in Belgrade. She graduated from the University of Belgrade at the Faculty of Forestry in 2008. At the same faculty, she was enrolled in doctoral academic studies in 2009. She defended her doctoral dissertation entitled "Variability of terpene composition and morphological characteristics of Taxus baccata L. needles in Serbia" and obtained the title of Doctor of Science - Biotechnical Sciences in 2015. Dr. Milena Marković has been employed at the Department of Ecology at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" in Belgrade since 2011, where she currently holds a permanent position as senior research associate. As a part of her postdoctoral studies, she stayed at the Technical University of Dresden, at the Department of Geosciences. She won a DAAD scholarship for short research stays in Germany "Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists, 2021" for the project entitled "The assessment of changes in green and blue spaces and spatiotemporal variations in land surface temperature in Belgrade during the last three decades (1991-2019)". Dr. Marković's research background is multidisciplinary. She was mainly involved in basic research on the chemical and morphological diversity of forest species in natural populations. In her studies, she examined chemodiversity based on the content of different kinds of specialized metabolites (e.g., essential oils, diarylheptanoids, phenols, flavonoids, etc.) and links between biodiversity and resilience to climate change. Besides, she is interested in the application of remote sensing techniques and data in ecological studies. She is an author of more than 20 scientific papers.
