As part of the WWWF Adriatic Call "ACTIONS OF SERBIA IN THE FIELD OF THE ENVIRONMENT, NATURE AND CLIMATE - SAFE NATURE AND CLIMATE", the project "Microplastics in aquatic ecosystems of Serbia - monitoring and legal framework" was funded. The project is carried out jointly by the Group for the Development of Environmental Awareness GRES and researchers from the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection, IBISS. The project foresees the development of a relational database on the previous results of detection, quantification and categorization of microplastic particles in aquatic ecosystems in the Republic of Serbia, a proposal for the development of a monitoring plan and the establishment of a microplastics Center at IBISS. The project aims to influence national and local decision-makers and water resource managers to adopt solutions for legislation and monitoring of the presence of microplastics in aquatic ecosystems. Raise awareness among citizens about the proper management of plastic waste and the risks that the presence of microplastics in water poses to the environment and public health.
