We focus our research on several interconnected signaling pathways. In early development we study the effects of Propofol on apoptosis, neural inflammation, synaptic plasticity and the long-term behavioral consequences. In aging we mainly focus on the effects that dietary restrictions have on synaptic plasticity and on maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis. Furthermore, we study the changes in BDNF and glucocorticoid signaling pathways, gliosis, inflammation and apoptosis. We particularly focus on the beneficial effect of dietary restrictions in the models of traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Recently we became interested in the role of BBB in AD. In particular, if different dietary regimes (including different supplements) can improve the permeability and function of BBB in both normal and pathological aging.
