The 2nd Training on Targeted & Non-targeted MS Data Analysis in Lipidomics Successfully Completed

On March 11-12, 2025, the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” hosted an intensive hands-on training session focused on mass spectrometry data processing in lipidomics. This training was a sort of continuation and deepening of the Training in Analytical Methods for Mass Spectrometry-based Lipidomics held in October of the previous year, aimed at engaging participants more actively with real research datasets.

Over the course of two days, following a brief theoretical introduction and a refresher on lipidomics fundamentals, participants had the opportunity to dive into real-world research data under the expert guidance of Dr. Anh Hoang Nguyen from Örebro University, our collaborator on the STRIMHealth project. Dr. Nguyen introduced them to the popular data processing software MZmine, and the training continued with post-processing in Excel, followed by the use of the free online tool MetaboAnalyst for statistical analysis.

To wrap up the training, Dr. Nguyen took participants through a quick tour of the most widely used databases in metabolomics and lipidomics, enriching their understanding and practical application of these resources.

The training brought together young biologists and chemists from some of the largest institutes at the University of Belgrade, contributing to strengthening the academic community and research capacity in the fields of metabolomics and lipidomics, in line with STRIMHealth project mission.
