GLOBAQUA Workshop in Belgrade

The Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, University of Belgrade (IBISS) has organized the GLOBAQUA (Managing the effects of multiple stressors on aquatic ecosystems under water scarcitywww.globaqua-project.eu/) Workshop (4th GLOBAQUA General Assembly and 8th GLOBAQUA Steering Committee meeting) on 15th and 16th of April 2018.

The project is supported by the EC Seventh framework Programme and gathers multidisciplinary Consortium consisted of 21 institutions, 19 from Europe, one from Canada and Morocco. The IBISS is partner that participates in realization of several project activities.

The GLOBAQUA study effects of multiple stress on aquatic environment on six selected river basins – Adige (Italy), Anglian (UK), Ebro (Spain), Evrotas (Greece), Sava (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro) and Souss Massa (Morocco). The catchments are different in respect to the general socio-economic and natural characteristics and thus provide optimal system for the analyses of the complex interactions in aquatic ecosystems, specifically in conditions of key hydrological events – droughts and floods.

Project started in February 2014 and will be ended in January 2019, thus Belgrade meeting was one of the last project events. All participants assessed the meeting as successful and activities for the ongoing period, up to the next workshop in Morocco, have been agreed.
