IBISS Project Support Team provides assistance to researchers throughout the pre-award and post-award phases of the research projects, with the aim of increasing the number of high-quality proposals and funded projects while ensuring full compliance with project implementation and reporting requirements.
Current activities include:
• Systematic monitoring of national and international funding opportunities and timely dissemination of this information to IBISS researchers;
• Assessment of the needs of researchers/teams/funding calls towards developing and implementing tailored support plans;
• Providing individual consultations and mentoring during project proposal preparation (in collaboration with Dr. Ljiljana Kundaković, Lead Associate for Scientific and Technical Cooperation);
• Organization of Info Days, thematic workshops, and networking events for researchers, teams, and potential partnering organizations, and communication with stakeholders;
• Organization of special activities with a particular focus on supporting early-career researchers;
• Building consistent project practices to enhance project coordination and management competencies.
IBISS Project Support Team closely collaborates with IBISS Knowledge and Technology Transfer Team, Administrative and Legal Service, as well as Accounting and Financial Service.

The IBISS Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) Team was established in 2023 to support the recognition, protection, and utilization of intellectual property (IP) arising from scientific research conducted at the Institute. Guided by the Institutional Intellectual Property Policy Rulebook, the KTT Team facilitates the translation of innovative research results into practical solutions with societal and economic relevance. By fostering collaborations with academic and industry partners, the KTT Team enhances the impact and visibility of IBISS innovations.
Key activities of the KTT Team include:
• Innovation identification and evaluation - Supporting researchers in recognizing the innovative and commercial potential of their research results.
• Intellectual property protection - Assisting in the preparation and submission of patent applications and other forms of IP protection, in cooperation with legal experts and the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia.
• Technology transfer and commercialization - Developing strategies for licensing, establishing spin-outs, and other pathways to bring innovations to market.
• Interinstitutional and industry collaboration – Supporting partnerships with universities, research institutions, and companies for joint research or licensing of IP.
• Training and awareness raising - Organizing workshops and consultations on IP management, entrepreneurship, and innovation valorization.
• Monitoring and advisory support – Overseeing license agreements and assisting the IBISS Director in strategic IP-related decision-making and commercialization.
Through these activities, the KTT Team contributes to the long-term sustainability, impact, and visibility of IBISS innovations.

The overall aim of the Metabolic Disease Research Unit (MDRU) is to advance translational research in the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Through a multidisciplinary approach combining fundamental research, molecular biology, biochemistry, multi-omics and data science, the MDRU will foster innovation and collaboration to improve metabolic health. The functioning of MDRU is based on the complementary field of research and expertise of different departments of IBISS in the metabolic disease research, and includes shared facilities, infrastructure and technology.
The main mission of MDRU is support the collaboration of research groups with different scientific backgrounds and the training of young researchers and innovators in translational research in the field of metabolic diseases.
Main objectives:
• Improvement of basic and translational metabolic disease research
• Implementation of a research roadmap based on multi-omics and bioinformatics
• Accelerated discovery of new disease biomarker and therapeutic targets
• Enhanced outreach activities and awareness from metabolic diseases in the general population
