Marija Pinjić
Marija Pinjić completed her B.Sc. in 2022 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, majoring in Molecular Biology and Physiology, with an average grade of 9.59. She earned her Master's degree in Genomics at the same faculty in 2023 by defending her thesis titled "Polymerase chain reaction as an enrichment method for analysis of DMPK expansions in patients with congenital form of myotonic dystrophy type 1" achieving an average grade of 10.00. The experimental part of her master's thesis was completed at the Human Molecular Genetics, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade.
In October of 2024, she enrolled in the Ph.D. program of Animal and Human Physiology and obtained the title of Junior Research Assistant.
As of February 1, 2025, she has been employed at the Department of Neurophysiology, where she will complete her doctoral dissertation.
Throughout her scientific career and professional development, Marija has chosen to focus on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative and malignant diseases, as well as the investigation of novel therapeutics for these conditions using the latest biochemical and molecular methods. Her research will be dedicated to uncovering the roles and regulatory mechanisms of autophagy, oxidative stress, mitochondria, and cell death as potential therapeutic targets.
