The Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation announced the Eighth call for talented young researchers - students of doctoral academic studies for inclusion in the work of scientific research organizations. On this occasion, the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" (IBISS) is organizing an Open Lab Day for potential candidates, researcher trainees, who want to get to know the research topics and areas within which research is conducted at IBISS in 14 departments.
A delegation from the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, led by State Secretary Adrian Kazaku and accompanied by Deputy State Secretary for European Union Affairs Ljudmila Pavlov, Director of the National Agency for Research and Development Aurelia Hanganu, and representatives of the research and education policy sector, visited the Institute on November 14, 2024.
Dr. Momir Paunović, Principal Research Fellow of the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection, will present plans for the preservation of these natural oases and potential locations for protection, and representatives of the "EU Green Agenda" project will present the opportunities for preserving wetlands and biodiversity that this initiative offers.
This is an opportunity for nature lovers to learn more about how wetlands help preserve biodiversity and provide natural water filtration.
On Thursday, November 7, representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation paid an official visit to our Institute. Dr. Minister Jelena Begović, with her team, state secretaries Vukašin Grozdić and prof. Dr. Miroslav Trajanović, assistant Dr. Marina Soković, analyst Andrijana Ivanović, representatives of the BIO4 campus, director Smiljana Krivokuća and Marija Pavlović and Nenad Paunović, advisor to the President of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić. The representative of the SAIGE project was the project manager Prof. Dr. Viktor Nedović. During the visit, the guests were informed about work at the institute and constructive discussions were held on the improvement of certain segments of the institute's work with the management led by director Dr. Mirjana Mihailović, then with members of the Board of Directors and members of the Scientific Council of IBISS, as well as with researchers. Тhe guests from the Ministry visited the aeroponic greenhouse, a room with experimental aquariums and terrariums, a breeding station for zebrafish and a breeding station for Drosophila.
The 5th Annual Conference of the Pan-Balkan Alliance of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Associations (PANDA) was held on October 22-23, 2024, at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” – National Institute of the Republic of Serbia (IBISS), University of Belgrade, with support from the Ministry Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Republic of Serbia.
Coworkers Natalija Jonić, Dr. Milica Lazarević, Dr. Bojan Jevtić and Dr. Đorđe Miljković, from the Department of Immunology IBISS, will hold a cycle of lectures in Kolarac during the month of November.

Dr. Ivana Budinski, Senior Research Associate at IBISS, received the Spallanzani Award from the North American Society for Bat Research. The Spallanzani Award supports distinguished bat researchers from outside North America in attending the North American Symposium for Bat Research (NASBR). As an awardee, she was invited to give a talk about her research at the 52nd NASBR, held last week in Guadalajara, Mexico.
IBISS associates, Dr. Danijela Maksimović-Ivanić, Dr. Sanja Mijatović, Dr. Melita Vidaković, Dr. Ivana Stojanović and Dr. Tamara Saksida visited Wuhan in China and participated in the work of the Donghu Forum. In addition to participation of our coleagues, scientists from Japan, Cuba, Germany and South Africa were also present. Donghu Forum is an international forum dedicated to the integration of engineering into medicine and establishing cooperation that leads to innovative solutions in medicine. At the Donghu forum, Dr. Melita Vidaković presented the work of our institute in its entirety, then research in the field of biomedicine, as well as the work of her group.
Dr. Melita Vidaković and Dr. Ivana Stojanović were promoted to visiting professors at the Hubei University of Technology.
TargetedResponse project Workshop (Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia) was held on October 21, 2024, in the Ceremonial Hall at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. The workshop brought together researchers and clinicians to present updates in the field of functional diagnostics for lung cancer.
The workshop was opened by Prof. Nataša Milić, Vice Dean for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Medicine, and Ana Vitas, a representative of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, along with the project leader, Dr. Milica Pešić, who presented the main results of the project.
Key presentations included Dr. Stefan Hadžić on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer, Dr. Davorin Radosavljević on advancements in lung cancer treatment, Dr. Joanna Kopecka on immune checkpoint inhibitors, Dr. Milena Čavić on liquid biopsies, and Dr. Robin Jansen on RAS-driven tumor therapies. The leaders of the TargetedResponse work packages—Dr. Jelena Dinić, Dr. Miodrag Dragoj, and Dr. Ana Podolski-Renić— also presented the latest results as the project approaches its conclusion.
