Members of the Department of Genetic Research are organizing the 5th B Chromosome Conference. The Conference will be held at the Petnica Science Center, October 14-17, 2023.
On Tuesday, May 24, the third "Golden Bee" award ceremony was held at the Palace of Slovenia in Ljubljana. "Golden Bee" is awarded by the Republic of Slovenia as the highest national recognition for the contribution to the preservation, protection and promotion of bees and other pollinators. In competition from 12 candidates from eight European countries, the Commission for the award chose the three best applications: Ph.D. Fani Hatjina from Greece, Pau Enrique Serra Marin from Spain and Ph.D. Slobodan Davidović from Serbia.
The Biochemical Society of Serbia organized the course "Biochemistry for health - modern methodological approaches in biomedical research" for students in the final year of undergraduate studies, the last two years of integrated academic studies, students of master's studies and students of the 1st and 2nd year of doctoral studies. The course was held in Belgrade and Novi Sad and lasted 7 days, May 14-20, 2023.
On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" celebrated its 76 years of dedicated work and existence. The institute organized a traditional celebration comprising both scientific and festive elements.
In the scientific segment researchers from institutes that IBISS closely collaborates with, delivered lectures. These included researchers from the Institute for Medical Research - an Institute of National Importance for the Republic of Serbia (Dr. Vladimir Ćirković), the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering of the University of Belgrade (Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić), the Institute of Nuclear Sciences "Vinča" of the University of Belgrade (Dr. Maja Bubić), the Institute for the Application of Nuclear Energy (Dr. Zorana Dobrijević), and the Faculty of Biology of the University of Belgrade (Dr. Milorad Dragić). Furthermore, the event featured enlightening presentations from the institute's collaborators, Dr. Danijela Paunović and Dr. Zorana Miletić.
Wednesday, May 31, 2023, marks the 76th anniversary since the founding of the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” – National Institute of Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade.
On this day, a celebration will be organized at the Institute. The first part of the celebration will be a scientific part consisting of a series of lectures that will be held in the IBISS library, then followed by a festive part with the director's addressing and the presenting of awards.
This year, the 65th International Fair of Techniques and Technical Achievements was held from May 16 to 19, 2023, in Hall 2B of the Belgrade Fair. Thematic units of the new initiative "Play for humanity!" Science for all", represented by the Republic of Serbia are science and technology parks, agriculture, biotechnology, urban systems, historical heritage, artificial intelligence and space.
At the competition for the best scientific publication of a young researcher in the field of physiology and/or biophysics in 2021/2022, the “Academician Radoslav K. Anđus” Foundation selected the article by Miloš Mandić and associate: "MAP kinase-dependent autophagy controls phorbol myristate acetate-induced macrophage differentiation of HL-60 leukemia cells" published in the journal Life Sciences 297:120481.
On May 10th, the Department of Plant Physiology IBISS and the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia hosted Dr. Andrea Bábelova, the head of the Department of Nanobiology at the Cancer Research Institute of the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
Center for the Promotion of Science has announced a public call for applications for financial support for science promotion and popularization projects. Out of a total of 112 received project proposals for category 2 of the public call, funding was approved for ten projects (9% pass rate), and two projects were approved for the colleagues of the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Department of Hidroecology and Water Protection.
On Friday, April 21, the Institute had the honor of hosting His Excellency Leyda Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Serbia. This visit was organized in order to establish cooperation between IBISS and scientific institutions in Cuba.
